Be the Light: Humble Brilliance is True Witness
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16
Have you considered that you are the light of the world? It’s known that Christ is the light, but in this passage, Jesus tells the crowd that they are the world's light. But, let's not get this twisted… Christ is the light that shines in all who believe; his image in us can only bring light to the world.
We’re on a journey as CityVine, a simple church movement, to be the light in everyday life. Sometimes, if we’re honest, this can make us feel intimidated or shy about sharing our “light” with others because we don't always believe we measure up to this call.
But the truth of Scripture says God does not call us to minister from a place of perfection. He isn't asking us to figure everything out before we can shine. The gospel message is bright because it's about a perfectly loving Savior who meets our desperate need and flawed nature and still wants a relationship with us.
When those in need of God see a “perfect performance” from God’s family, they assume they don't belong. But the call to shine is to be genuine in our weakness, not knowing the correct answers and simply imitating how Jesus lived. By doing so, we let people see God’s brilliant light within us.
Christ in His grace encounters, loves, and dwells with weak and desperate individuals— just like us.
To be the light— let the light of God wash you.
Take time today to let God love you.
Allow Him to mold and shape you into a child who intimately knows his love. From that place of love, you can choose to open your life and love others as you have been loved.
Today, we can live honestly before God and others, shining as light in the world and illuminating the path to God's heart for everyone around us.
May you experience the joy, passion, and purpose that comes from being used by God to advance His kingdom today.
